Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Najeeb Al-Awaj said that they are working in the legitimate government to serve the Yemeni people in all governorates without exception.
He also stressed the importance of the role of the European Union to act as an integrated system to support Yemen in various areas and sectors of life, and stressed the need for the European Union pressure on the Houthis to implement the Convention of Sweden to ensure the achievement of peace.
This came during the meeting held in the interim capital of Aden, today, and included the leadership of the Ministry of Planning represented by Minister Dr. Najib Al-Auj, his deputy Dr. Nizar Basaib, Undersecretary of the Ministry Omar Abdulaziz and a number of concerned, and the delegation of the European Union which is currently visiting Yemen, headed by Antonia Caldero, The delegation, which included the French ambassador to Yemen Christian Tisto, to see the nature of the situation and strengthen the mechanisms of coordination and cooperation with the legitimate government.
Dr. Najib welcomed the visit of the Delegation of the European Union to Yemen and praised the level of cooperation relations between Yemen and the European Union and its great role in supporting Yemen with projects at a cost of about 229 million Euros, especially projects that included strengthening the resilience of communities in the agricultural and health sectors, , Improving livelihoods, cash for work and promoting social cohesion.
He stressed that the government is working on preparing the state budget for the current year 2019, and that the budget needs to strengthen resources to achieve development, which in turn will create peace, and pointed out that the biggest challenge to the government is to raise the proportion of revenues, which requires doubling international support for the oil sector and economic institutions, to meet the needs of Yemen from development projects.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Planning is coordinating with the provincial governors on enhancing the work of the flow of revenues from customs and taxes to contribute to the achievement of development, as it is not development without income. He noted the governmental role in the economic aspect through working on the recovery of the economy and improving the local currency. With the service ministries to prepare and develop a common strategic vision to provide partners to support them and contribute to the provision of services.
He stressed the government's interest in encouraging the private sector and partnership with it, and its efforts to involve all segments of society in the process of comprehensive development and provide employment opportunities among the community, especially young people and women leaders. He also emphasized the government's interest at the present time and the next stage in activating the fingerprint system, Nature in the liberated provinces after the suffering of the war, and explained that the government is working on the plans for reconstruction, which cost billions.
The Minister of Planning, Dr. Awaj, reiterated that the ministry provides all facilities to organizations including non-governmental organizations to enable them to implement their programs in various fields as required and without any obstacles. He pointed out that the Ministry of Planning will launch its website next week to facilitate all procedures and transactions With organizations working in Yemen, and expressed the satisfaction of the government to provide the European Union support to Yemen in the areas of development.
He called for the return of the diplomatic corps and the European Union to be present in the temporary capital of Aden, as well as the return of the regular meetings of the European Union in Yemen in Aden, and noted the importance of holding meetings between the government and donors to review development projects in various governorates, We look forward to working with partners, mainly to the development aspects, and to activating EU programs for child support, women, democracy and local governance, human rights, civil service and the fisheries sector.
For his part, thanked the Deputy Minister of Planning Dr. Nazar Bushaib, the European Union for his efforts in support of Yemen, and expressed the aspiration of the government to move from the relief side to support investment and activate the fields of oil and mineral wealth in Marib and Balhaf, welcomed the European investments in the oil and minerals sector in Yemen, This will contribute to support the legitimate government and the Yemeni people in all governorates without exception.
The head of the European delegation, Antonia Caldero, expressed her pleasure to visit Aden and meet with the leadership of the Ministry of Planning. She also stressed the importance of the role of planning to implement various plans and programs in the areas of capacity building, provision of services and needs, job creation and support of Yemenis in the countryside and other fields.
She pointed out that the EU works in various sectors through the distribution of tasks among its members, and stressed the importance and necessity of further strengthening cooperation and coordination between the EU and the government, which would be reflected positively at the level of different sectors and sectors in Yemen.
