Ministers of Planning and Water Discuss Strengthening Partnership to Support Water, Environment, and Climate Adaptation Priorities

A joint meeting was held today in the interim capital, Aden, between the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Afrah Al-Zuba, and the Minister of Water and Environment, Eng. Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi. The meeting discussed ways to strengthen partnership and institutional coordination between the two ministries to support the priorities of the water and environment sectors, enhance efforts to adapt to climate change, and implement development projects in coordination with supporting entities.

The meeting reviewed the priorities for the next phase in the water and environment sectors and mechanisms for aligning programs and projects with government directions and development needs. It also addressed strengthening coordination to expand funding opportunities for strategic projects aimed at improving water and sanitation services, promoting sustainable water resource management, and enhancing communities' resilience to the impacts of climate change.

The two sides also discussed ways to develop cooperation with supporting entities and facilitate the procedures for preparing and approving priority projects. This aims to improve the efficiency of their implementation, maximize the use of available resources and funding, and achieve integration between national plans and the priorities of supporting entities.

Minister Afrah Al-Zuba affirmed the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation's commitment to continued coordination with the Ministry of Water and Environment, supporting its development priorities, and working with donor agencies to expand funding opportunities for strategic projects and enhance climate change adaptation efforts. This contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and improving the preparedness of the water and environment sectors to address current and future challenges.

For his part, Minister Al-Sharjabi emphasized that strengthening the partnership with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation is a cornerstone of supporting the Ministry's efforts in implementing water, environment, and climate adaptation projects. It also expands funding opportunities, contributing to the sustainability of natural resources, improving water and sanitation services, and addressing environmental and climate challenges.
