The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Afrah Al-Zuba, discussed today in the temporary capital Aden with country directors and officials of international non-governmental organisations working in Yemen joint coordination efforts between the government and organisations and ways to develop partnerships to enhance the effectiveness of humanitarian and development interventions.
The meeting, attended by ministry undersecretaries and specialists, reviewed a number of challenges and obstacles facing the work of organisations and mechanisms for addressing them, in addition to discussing ways to raise the level of coordination and improve the quality of interventions to achieve a tangible impact for beneficiaries in various governorates.
Minister Al-Zouba stressed the importance of strengthening institutional coordination between the government and international partners and aligning the assistance provided with national priorities, ensuring that resources are directed towards the most needy sectors and achieving an effective response to humanitarian and development needs.
She pointed to the need to improve aid management systems and strengthen national capacities in the areas of planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, in addition to establishing the principles of transparency and exchange of information and data between all parties in various programmes and projects.
The Minister of Planning noted that the meeting aimed to come up with practical measures and develop concrete solutions to technical and technical issues related to the content of projects and interventions. She affirmed the ministry's commitment to providing the necessary support and facilities, overcoming the difficulties facing the work of organisations, working as a single integrated group to cover the needs in various regions, improving access to aid and achieving the desired impact.
Dr. Al-Zuba pointed out that the Ministry has a digital platform for exchanging and sharing data with partners. She also mentioned the single window project, for which the government is completing the logistical procedures, which will contribute to simplifying procedures and enhancing the efficiency of institutional coordination. She emphasised the importance of unifying the efforts of the government and international organisations and delivering a clear and unified message to donor partners that reflects the scale of humanitarian and development needs in Yemen and supports the mobilisation of the necessary funding to sustain interventions.
For their part, country directors and representatives of international organisations provided clarification on their organisations' plans and programmes in Yemen and the challenges facing the implementation of activities and projects, foremost among which is the funding gap. They expressed their aspiration to strengthen coordination and continuous communication with the Yemeni government to ensure the delivery of aid and the implementation of projects in accordance with the priorities and needs of national sectors.
The representatives of the organisations expressed their readiness to enhance the exchange of information, expertise and successful experiences between the two sides, thereby contributing to the development of performance and improving the quality of the programmes implemented. They affirmed their continued support for Yemen and appreciated the existing partnership with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation as the government agency coordinating humanitarian and development efforts in Yemen.
