Minister of Planning Discusses Strengthening Development Cooperation with Japanese Ambassador

The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr Afrah Al-Zuba, today discussed with the Japanese Ambassador to Yemen, Yuichi Nakashima, ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and broaden its horizons in various development sectors.

Minister Al-Zuba expressed the Yemeni government’s appreciation for Japan’s continued support for Yemen, which covers multiple vital sectors, including health, nutrition, water and sanitation, and education, in addition to support for customs infrastructure, the provision of specialised equipment and devices, and capacity-building and training programmes for Yemeni personnel.

She praised Japan’s generous contributions channelled through UN agencies operating in Yemen, which reach millions of beneficiaries across various governorates.

The Minister of Planning outlined the new government’s priorities and programme in the areas of economic recovery, improving basic services, and strengthening institutional governance, emphasising her aspiration to deepen the partnership with Japan and expand areas of cooperation to include new sectors that serve national development priorities.

For his part, the Japanese Ambassador to Yemen expressed his country’s commitment to continuing its support for Yemen and backing efforts towards recovery and stability, as well as raising the level of cooperation, whilst affirming Japan’s readiness to explore new opportunities for joint cooperation.

The meeting was attended by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Yemeni Embassy in Riyadh, Jamal Awad.
