Minister of Planning Discusses Strengthening Development and Institutional Partnership with British

The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr Afrah Al-Zuba, today discussed with the British Ambassador to Yemen, Abdu Sharif, ways to develop bilateral cooperation and strengthen partnership in development and institutional fields, in support of the government’s efforts to implement reforms and achieve economic recovery.

The meeting addressed the latest developments in the institutional assessment of the Ministry of Planning, which is being conducted with British support, and ways to utilise its findings to strengthen the Ministry’s role as a central coordination point for international cooperation. They also discussed mechanisms for improving coordination among various development partners, enhancing the efficiency of implementing current and future programmes and projects, and addressing the challenges they face.

The Minister of Planning expressed the Yemeni government’s appreciation for the UK’s continued support, which includes backing institutional and financial reform programmes, strengthening the capacities of state institutions, and contributing to the Yemen Fund at the World Bank, as well as supporting humanitarian and development programmes in vital sectors such as health, water, governance, the rule of law, and the empowerment of women and youth.

Minister Al-Zuba also reviewed the outcomes of her recent meetings with a number of international partners, emphasising the importance of strengthening integration and coordination among various development partners during the coming phase, thereby contributing to the achievement of tangible and sustainable results on the ground.

For her part, the British Ambassador reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to continuing its support for Yemen, backing the government’s efforts to implement reforms and strengthen the path to economic recovery, thereby achieving stability and improving living conditions for citizens.

Both sides agreed on the importance of continuing regular coordination and consultation, thereby ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of development programmes, aligning them with the priorities of the government’s programme, and enhancing their impact in supporting sustainable development pathways.
