Washington - Saba:

The Yemeni government delegation participating in the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank discussed today with Robert Palladino, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, ways to develop the partnership between the two friendly countries in a manner that contributes to supporting the government’s efforts and enhancing its performance.

The meeting, which was attended by the Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen, Ahmed Ghalib, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr Afrah Al-Zuba, and the Minister of Finance, Marwan Bin Ghanem, addressed the Yemeni government’s efforts aimed at normalising and stabilising the economic situation, and implementing a package of reforms designed to strengthen the performance of vital institutions and improve the efficiency of financial and monetary management.

The two sides reviewed the repercussions of regional and international developments, the resulting rise in fuel prices, shipping costs and remittances, and their impact on the economic situation in Yemen.

In this regard, the government delegation emphasised the importance of including Yemen in international and regional initiatives aimed at promoting economic stability and mitigating the effects of global crises.

The US side, meanwhile, affirmed its country’s support for the Yemeni government and its commitment to stabilising the economic situation and strengthening institutional capacity, thereby contributing to economic recovery and improving the living conditions of the Yemeni people.
