Minister of Planning Discusses with German Ambassador Ways to Strengthen Development Cooperation and Support Vital Sectors in Yemen

The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr Afrah Al-Zuba, today discussed in the temporary capital, Aden, with the German Ambassador to Yemen, Thomas Schneider, ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and the prospects for development support provided to Yemen in light of the current economic and humanitarian challenges.

The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation emphasised the importance of continued German support for vital sectors... She noted the outcomes of Yemen’s participation in the recent Spring Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund held in Washington, and the discussions regarding funding and programmes dedicated to supporting Yemen, particularly in the fisheries, nutrition, water, health and roads sectors, as well as institutional capacity-building programmes.

Minister Al-Zuba touched upon the Article IV consultations with the International Monetary Fund and the review of economic policies and reforms associated with improving the business environment and enhancing economic stability in Yemen. She highlighted the importance of developing bilateral cooperation between Yemen and Germany and strengthening the development partnership, thereby contributing to supporting the government’s efforts towards economic recovery and improving basic services.

The Minister of Planning reviewed the challenges arising from the reduction in funding provided by the international community, emphasising the need to improve coordination among international partners and avoid duplication in the implementation of programmes and projects, thereby ensuring the optimal use of available resources.

For his part, the German Ambassador affirmed his country’s commitment to continuing its support for Yemen across various development and humanitarian sectors, commending the Yemeni government’s efforts in implementing economic reforms and strengthening coordination with international partners.
