London - Saba
The Republic of Yemen took part today, Tuesday, in the Global Partnerships Conference
hosted by the UK capital, London, with a delegation led by the Minister
Planning and International Cooperation, Dr Afrah Al-Zuba.
From 19 to 20 May, the conference – attended by leaders,
decision-makers and representatives of governments, international institutions, and development and humanitarian organisations from various
countries around the world – will explore ways to develop the international cooperation system to meet
and to strengthen partnerships between governments, the private sector,
international financial institutions, civil society organisations and donors.
During the opening session, speeches delivered by the conference organisers
emphasised the importance of transitioning towards a more equitable partnership model based on national ownership
and support for countries’ plans and priorities, and strengthening the role of national institutions as the foundation
for sustainable development. They also highlighted the importance of addressing the development financing gap in the face of
declining aid and growing humanitarian and development needs, and the necessity of working
collectively to address shared challenges, including the repercussions of regional crises
and climate change.
The Republic of Yemen’s participation in this conference comes within the framework of the government’s commitment to
strengthening Yemen’s presence in international forums concerned with development and international cooperation,
highlighting Yemen’s priorities and aspirations during the recovery and reconstruction phase, and emphasising
the importance of channelling support towards development aspects and building institutional resilience, thereby strengthening
the partnership between the Republic of Yemen and its international partners.
The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation is scheduled to participate in a number of sessions
and bilateral meetings with ministers, officials and representatives of international institutions,
as well as to deliver a statement outlining the Republic of Yemen’s vision and priorities in
the fields of humanitarian and development work.
