The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr Afrah Al-Zuba, today discussed in the temporary capital, Aden, with members of the Women’s Summit Coordination Committee, mechanisms for utilising the recommendations of the Women’s Summits and the outcomes of civil society work in the preparation and implementation of the National Development Plan, thereby enhancing women’s participation in development, peacebuilding and decision-making.
The meeting emphasised the need to continue coordination and joint work to ensure that the outcomes and recommendations of the Women’s Summits, as well as the Women, Security and Peace Plan, are incorporated into the priorities and directions of the National Development Plan, thereby contributing to the building of an effective partnership between the government and civil society organisations to achieve development that is more responsive to the needs of Yemeni society.
Minister Al-Zuba reviewed the Ministry’s efforts to evaluate the performance of international cooperation, reorganise institutional work and strengthen coordination with various ministries and government bodies, alongside revitalising communication with donors and international partners to ensure that support is directed towards national priorities and actual development needs. She noted that the education and health sectors are at the forefront of those requiring greater support and attention in the coming phase.
She emphasised the importance of partnership between government bodies and civil society in preparing and implementing the National Development Plan, the need to train the national teams responsible for its preparation, the involvement of women in various stages of planning and implementation, and the linking of national plans to the needs and development priorities of the governorates to ensure the achievement of a sustainable and comprehensive development impact.
For her part, Maha Awad, coordinator of the Women’s Summit and president of the Wujood Foundation for Human Security, emphasised the need for the government to take note of the outcomes of the Women’s Summits following eight consecutive summits, as they constitute a national platform that has reflected the priorities, views and aspirations of Yemeni women on various political, developmental, economic and social issues.
She also stressed the need to develop development indicators based on the real needs of society, and to integrate the women’s, security and peace agenda into the framework of the National Development Plan, thereby ensuring that public policies respond to women’s priorities and needs.
