Aden – Saba News:

The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr Afrah Al-Zuba, met today in the temporary capital, Aden, with the Chair of the National Women’s Committee, Dr Shafiqa Saeed, to discuss ways of strengthening coordination and joint cooperation to support women’s empowerment and enhance their role in development plans and programmes at both central and local levels.

The meeting addressed the situation of the National Women’s Committee’s branches in the governorates, the current level of coordination with relevant government bodies, and the main challenges facing their work, foremost among which are limited funding and the shift in donors’ priorities towards emergency humanitarian interventions, and the resulting decline in support allocated to development programmes in the health, education and women’s sectors.

Minister Al-Zouba emphasised the importance of strengthening the partnership between government institutions and the international community to support national development priorities, noting that political and economic challenges, along with the repercussions of the ongoing war, have placed significant pressure on the performance of government institutions, necessitating a reorganisation of coordination and cooperation mechanisms with international partners.

For her part, the Chair of the National Women’s Committee outlined the Committee’s remit and its plan for the year 2026, emphasising the importance of involving the Committee and its branches in the technical and higher-level committees responsible for drawing up the state’s general plans at both provincial and central levels, thereby ensuring that women’s issues are integrated into development policies and programmes.
