Aden – Saba News:

The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr Afrah Al-Zuba, met today in the temporary capital, Aden, with the Country Director of Child Care International, Rishana Hanifa, to discuss areas of cooperation and partnership between the two sides and ways to strengthen humanitarian and development interventions.

The meeting reviewed the current humanitarian, economic and development situation and the challenges facing Yemen, the repercussions of the decline in international humanitarian funding and its impact on vital sectors – particularly health, education and social protection – as well as opportunities to strengthen cooperation and partnership in the coming period.

The meeting also addressed the possibility of expanding interventions in priority sectors; the organisation’s strategic directions and plans for the period 2026–2027; opportunities to develop future projects that support recovery and development efforts; and the importance of supporting the health, nutrition, education, child protection and food security sectors, as well as livelihoods and the strengthening of resilience.

During the meeting, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation commended the organisation’s role in supporting the health, nutrition, education and child protection sectors, and in strengthening the resilience of local communities in Yemen.

She emphasised the importance of aligning the organisation’s programmes and interventions with the government’s priorities and the National Development Plan, the need to link humanitarian work with recovery and sustainable development, and the transition from emergency response to long-term solutions.

The Minister of Planning emphasised the importance of strengthening coordination with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and relevant government bodies to ensure the effectiveness of interventions and achieve a sustainable impact. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuing cooperation with the organisation in a way that contributes to improving the conditions of children, families and local communities in Yemen.

For her part, the Chief Executive of Child Care International affirmed that the organisation would continue to implement its humanitarian and development programmes to meet the urgent needs of the most vulnerable groups, with a focus on supporting children and women and enhancing opportunities for recovery and building resilience in local communities. She commended the level of cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and the relevant government bodies, which will help achieve sustainable development outcomes.
