The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr Afrah Al-Zuba, today met in the temporary capital, Aden, with the Acting United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen, Laurent Bouquer, to discuss efforts to strengthen coordination and support upcoming development priorities.

The two sides discussed interventions and the basic needs of national sectors, as well as ways to strengthen joint cooperation between the government and relevant UN organisations in the areas of climate change adaptation and early warning systems, with a view to ensuring the preparation of a joint action plan in this field.

Minister Al-Zuba emphasised the government’s pivotal role in setting the priorities for humanitarian and development programmes, stressing the importance of strengthening institutional capacity-building in parallel with project implementation, and ensuring that the interventions of development partners are aligned with the National Development Plan (2027–2029), which is currently being drafted.

She called on United Nations agencies and international non-governmental organisations to share data on their projects and interventions with the Ministry, as part of its efforts to consolidate data on development and humanitarian work into a single national information system, noting the decline in international funding and its impact on essential services, particularly in the health sector.

The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation called for joint action to identify priorities and allocate available resources in a way that ensures the continuity of these services. She reiterated the call to expedite the relocation of United Nations agency headquarters to the temporary capital, Aden, thereby strengthening direct coordination with state institutions and enhancing the efficiency of joint cooperation.

For his part, the UN Resident Coordinator and Acting Humanitarian Coordinator emphasised the UN’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Yemeni Government, supporting its development and humanitarian priorities, and intensifying joint coordination to enhance the effectiveness of interventions in meeting the needs of citizens.
