Aden - Saba
A joint meeting between Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Afrah Al-Zuba, and Minister of State and Governor of Aden Governorate, Abdulrahman Sheikh, discussed ways to enhance coordination and cooperation to reorder development priorities and transition from emergency humanitarian aid to sustainable development projects.
The meeting, which was attended by a number of undersecretaries from the ministry and the governorate, as well as directors of executive offices, reviewed the nature of development projects and interventions in various sectors, particularly the roads and water sectors, and mechanisms for developing them to improve the level of basic services provided to citizens.
The meeting also addressed the Wadi Al-Kabir project, the challenges related to climate change, reconstruction efforts, and ways to strengthen partnerships with donors and international organizations to support priority projects. Additionally, it discussed coordination mechanisms with partners and donors to shift from emergency relief and humanitarian aid programs to funding sustainable development projects, thereby achieving a long-term impact and contributing to economic and service development.
The meeting addressed the funding allocated to projects during the past and current years, the mechanisms for its distribution, and ways to optimize its use to ensure that resources are directed towards priority projects and that the highest levels of efficiency are achieved in their implementation. At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation between the Ministry of Planning and the local authorities, particularly in the technical aspects of preparing project studies, within a national plan aimed at reprioritizing development projects. This will be achieved by submitting a proposal to the Cabinet to prepare a development plan in partnership with relevant ministries and local authorities.
