Aden - Saba

The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Afrah Al-Zuba, discussed today in the temporary capital of Aden with representatives of international non-governmental organisations working in Yemen ways to strengthen joint coordination and improve humanitarian and development mechanisms in the country.

The Minister of Planning affirmed the government's keenness to support the efforts of international organisations and facilitate their work, thereby contributing to increasing the efficiency of the implementation of programmes and projects funded by donors. She noted that the ministry is working to develop and simplify administrative procedures by moving towards digital transformation and launching a ‘single window’ platform, which will serve as a unified entry point to facilitate procedures and permits related to the work of organisations.

She explained that the government's programme is based on a number of key priorities, including promoting stability, improving basic services, supporting economic reforms, strengthening governance and institution building, and developing the social protection system.

She called for continued support for the national recovery plan, efforts to build local capacity and absorb qualified national cadres, as well as expanding the horizons of international cooperation and strengthening partnerships with donors.

Dr. Afrah Al-Zuba pointed out the importance of a gradual transition from emergency humanitarian response to sustainable development programmes, which would contribute to achieving a long-term impact on local communities. She affirmed the government's aspiration to work with international partners to promote this approach in a manner that meets the needs of Yemeni society.

For their part, representatives of international non-governmental organisations expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the Yemeni Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation in strengthening coordination with international partners, emphasising the importance of continuing dialogue and consultation to address the challenges facing project implementation, particularly with regard to administrative approval procedures and coordination with sectoral authorities.

They also affirmed their readiness to continue cooperating with the Yemeni government in order to enhance the effectiveness of humanitarian and development programmes and contribute to improving the level of services provided to local communities in various governorates.

At the end of the meeting, the importance of continuing to hold such meetings on a regular basis was emphasised in order to enhance coordination and exchange views on funding opportunities and common challenges, thereby supporting efforts to improve the humanitarian and development situation in Yemen.
