A meeting of the Food Security Steering Committee, chaired by Dr Afrah Al-Zuba, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, and Salim Al-Saqatri, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries, was held today in the temporary capital, Aden, to discuss the National Food Security Strategy for the period 2026–2030 and the plan for identifying and evaluating food security projects.

Minister Al-Zuba emphasised the government’s commitment to food security, considering it the cornerstone of social and economic stability and a safeguard for social peace. She explained that the continued deterioration of this issue directly leads to rising rates of malnutrition, increased pressure on the health system, and the hindrance of human development plans.

Al-Zouba noted that the National Food Security Strategy for the period 2026–2030 represents a unified national vision and a comprehensive roadmap designed to guide the efforts of the government and international partners in the coming years. She highlighted the importance of the strategy in adopting an integrated, multi-sectoral approach, and expressed her appreciation to the Technical Secretariat for Food Security, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), and all those who contributed to the preparation and development of this important national document.

For his part, Minister Al-Sagatri emphasised the importance of discussing and approving the National Food Security Strategy, thereby paving the way for its implementation in accordance with practical priorities and programmes that contribute to strengthening food security and improving livelihoods. He outlined the Ministry’s efforts to prepare and update sectoral strategies for agriculture and fisheries, in line with national sustainable development objectives.

Al-Saqatri noted that the government faces significant challenges in the area of food security due to economic and humanitarian conditions, climate change and resource scarcity, which requires the unification of national efforts and the strengthening of partnerships with donors and international organisations. He explained that the strategy serves as a reference document to guide future projects and programmes.

Meanwhile, Dr Al-Khader Atroush, Head of the Technical Secretariat for Food Security, outlined the contents of the National Food Security Strategy for the period 2026–2030, the methodology used in its preparation, the results of the inventory and assessment of existing food security projects, and mechanisms for enhancing coordination between government bodies and partners.
